Bill Cummings is a senior business economist based in Cairns with many years of experience in analysing the regional economies and industries of northern Australia and the Papua New Guinea/Pacific area.

Recent work has included identification of mining developments throughout the wider area, workforce, goods and service supply opportunities, identifying the importance of major sectors like agriculture and tourism in the regional economy, air and sea transport link opportunities, economic importance of road developments and likely future workforce needs.

His professional career has included economic research positions with the Australian Department of Trade, the Australian Chamber of Commerce, regional development, tourism promotion organisations and Chambers of Commerce in the north, as a member of the Council of James Cook University, and as Queensland Government nominee to the North Australia Development Council.

He has widespread experience as a columnist, media commentator and speaker on economic development issues.
